| Membership Information:
The Middle Tennessee Chapter of MOAA is open to those who hold or have ever held a warrant or commission in any component of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Auxiliary membership are available for surviving spouses of deceased officers. Chapter dues are $15.00 per year. A one year trial membership for new members is free. Lifetime memberships are also available.

The Chapter publishes a monthly newsletter to keep the membership informed of current meeting agendas and articles of local and national interest. This monthly letter is available on this website and is mailed to those members who request delivery.

| Meeting Information:
The Middle Tennessee Chapter meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11:30 AM. Our meetings are held at the Old Natchez Country Club, 115 Gardengate Drive, Franklin, Tennessee. Their phone number is 615-373-3200.
The Board of Directors meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 AM. Interested members are encouraged to attend. Please call Captain Dale Lewelling, 615-428-0490 for information on the next Board meeting.
The location of the meeting is: National Guard Association of Tennessee (NGAT), 4332 Kenilwood Drive, Nashville, TN 37204; Take Exit 78 (Harding Place Exit) and proceed onto Sidco Drive on the east side of Interstate 65. Proceed approximately 6 tenths of a mile (.6) on Sidco Drive and then turn left onto Kenilwood Drive. The NGAT Group Insurance Trust building is on the right side of the street. Enter the main door and you are there. Note: Scheduled meetings will not be held if the Davidson or Williamson County schools are closed due to snow conditions.

National Military Officers Association of America Information:
The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is an independent, non-profit, dues-supported organization, exclusively operated to benefit uniformed services personnel and their families and survivors. MOAA advocates a strong national defense and plays an active role in military personnel matters, especially proposed legislation affecting active duty personnel, the retired community, and veterans. Our primary goal is making the views of our members known to decision-makers in the federal government.
MOAA was founded in 1929 in Los Angeles. Today, with nearly 390,000 members and reincorporated in Virginia, MOAA is the largest military officers' association.
National MOAA membership is open to all men and women who are or ever have been commissioned or warrant officers in any component of the seven uniformed services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Auxiliary membership is open to widows and widowers of deceased members, as well as surviving spouses of those who would have been eligible for membership.
MOAA has more than 420 chapters across the United States and abroad.
MOAA member benefits include a subscription to the award-winning Military Officer magazine, job/career search counseling, educational assistance, advice on benefits and entitlements, insurance and investment products, and discount travel services.

Middle Tennessee Chapter Goals for the 2008 Year:
1. Grow Our Membership in Numbers and Participation.
2. Continue to improve the Chapter Designated Scholarship Fund.
3. Maintain and enhance our Four (4) Star Chapter Status. |
Designated Scholarship Program:
The Designated Scholarship Program of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of MOAA provides an interest-free loan of $3,250 per year and a grant of $500 per year for up to five (5) undergraduate years.
Who is eligible to apply? One of the parents of the applicant must be on active duty, retired, a former commissioned or warrant officer or a member of the National Guard or Reserve. Officers must be members of MOAA. The applicant must have at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be less than 24 years old. The applicant must live or have a home of record in the Middle Grand Division of Tennessee or that portion of Kentucky containing a part of Ft. Campbell or the adjacent counties where Ft. Campbell families live.
How do you apply? Applicants may apply on the internet starting November 1 until March 1 each year. You apply for a regular scholarship on the National MOAA web page at: www.moaa.org/education . After viewing the webpage then click on: "2007-2008 application". After applying, the selection of the Middle Tennessee Chapter Designated Scholar is made by a committee at MOAA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Middle Tennessee Chapter has sponsored the Chapter Designated Scholarship with a commitment to provide $25,000 over a five year period. The 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 increments of $5,000 have been contributed. Our 2003 scholar is Beth MacIntire, whose father is an active duty Army surgeon. She was a star athlete in high school with an outstanding academic record and demonstrated leadership skills in both her school and community. She has now graduated and is pursuing a Masters Degree at Colorado State University.
Our 2004 scholar is Amanda Crabtree. She is the beneficiary of our second chapter scholarship established last year by the Hedges family in honor of Colonel John Hedges, USAF, deceased and Mrs. Barbara Hedges (Former 1st Lt., USAF). Our 2005 scholar is Leigh Overby. She is the beneficiary of our first chapter scholarship after Beth graduated. Leigh graduated in May 2007 and a new scholar will be designated in June 2007. Our 2006 scholar is Robin Overby. She is the beneficiary of our second chapter scholarship and is still attending Samford University in Birmingham. |
Middle Tennessee Membership Goals:
The Middle Tennessee Chapter membership objectives are to:
a) Attract additional younger members,
b) encourage a larger attendance at our monthly chapter meetings,
c) expand our focus on associate member needs. |
